Swim England National Open Water Festival 2017

The Festival will return to Rother Valley Country Park in 2017 for two days of competition, incorporating the National Open Water Masters Championships, the National Open Water Age Group Championships and amass participation event for swimmers of all abilities.

Online Entry Form for this year’s ASA South West Region Open Water Championships on Saturday 24 June 2017 at Preston Beach, Weymouth DT4 7SX.

The event incorporates County Championships for Dorset ASA, Gloucester ASA, Somerset ASA and this year the Police Open Water Championships.

Registration opens at 9am.

Events: Male & Female 5km, 3km, 1,500m and a 750m Taster Event.
Entry fees £22 for each for 5km, 3km, 1,500m and £8.50 for the Taster Event.


Cold Water Swimming Championships 2017

On Saturday 28 January 2017, South London Swimming Club plays host to the 7th SLSC UK Cold Water Swimming Championships at the spiritual home of cold water swimming, Tooting Bec Lido.

Congratulations to swimmers achieving medal placings in Dorset ASA and SW Region Open Water events at Preston Beach, Weymouth on 25 Jun and all those completing swims.

A special well done to club member Emily Clarke who also trains with Poole Swimming Club and won the Ladies 5km swim in 1:01.25s.

Open Water Swimming Officials needed in South West

Do you want to officiate at events in the open air, rather than in a steamy swimming pool? Well you can enjoy the benefits of sun, sea and sand whilst judging a swimming event!

ASA SW Region are running development courses for existing and new officials during the 2016 season:

Saturday 28 May 2016 – Cheddar Pool, classroom and pool sessions
Saturday 4 June 2016 – Weymouth, practical sessions on beach and boat. Learn about officiating at Open Water events, update on rules from the 2013 FINA Congress. Practical experience in boats and with swimmers. Plus “ Spot the Foul”.


EDOWSC successes in Regional and County Open Water Championships 2015

Congratulations to Emily Clarke, 18 (1:11:55, 2nd SW 17-18 age group, 1st Dorset, 2nd overall: 5km), Chloe Roxburgh, 17 (1:26:30, 2nd SW U18, 1st Dorset 6th overall: 5km), Jordan Young, 17 (1:13:33, 2nd SW 17-18 age group, 1st Dorset, 5km, 4th overall) on their results at Weymouth on 28 June 2015.

Entries open for the 2015 ASA Open Water National Championships

The two day competition at Rother Valley Park, Sheffield will see top open water swimmers compete for national titles in Masters events on Sunday 2 August 2015, and national Age Group events on Monday 3 August 2015.

Entries for the National Age Groups events close at 12 noon on 1 July 2015, while entries for Masters events close at 12 noon on 16 July 2015.

The club meets at Shore Road in Poole (just east of Sandbanks) on Tuesdays 6.00 pm for a 6.15 pm swim. The first swim of the 2015 season for Club members will be mid April. Naturally the decision to swim is subject to weather and sea conditions. Contact Gerry Griffin for further details. Sunday swims for Club members who are experienced open water swimmers recommence in May 2015 (same time and place).
Please note initial taster sessions are only available on the first Tuesday of each month (commencing May to September). If bad weather prevents this on the first Tuesday, it will be on the following Tuesday.
