World Record set by Marc Newman for Dungeness to France swim

English Channel swimmer Marc Newman set a new 16h 9m (unratified) World Record by becoming the first person to complete the 26 mile Dungeness to France crossing which is nearly 20% longer than the traditional 21 mile route.

A huge well done to Marc on his amazing swim which has so far raised over £3000 for Julia’s House a children’s hospice based in Dorset. If you would like to donate to his charity please click on Marc’s justgiving page.

Seahorse Swim 2016 Results

We held our seventh annual Seahorse Swim on Sunday 3 July 2016 attracting swimmers from all over the country. The swim from Knoll Beach, Studland was held by kind permission of the National Trust and in support of the Seahorse Trust and was blessed with good weather. Touch both Sides swim the Channel

Congratulations to Tom Duly, Les Jessop, Jude Martin and Chris Millener – ‘Touch Both Sides’ who have successfully swum from England to France.

With the rough start to their channel swim came sea sickness but with determination the team pulled through this and cracked on with their swim. Time 13h 56m (unratified),

ASA SW Region & Dorset Open Water Championships 2016

Congratulations to swimmers achieving medal placings in Dorset ASA and SW Region Open Water events at Preston Beach, Weymouth on 25 Jun and all those completing swims.

A special well done to club member Emily Clarke who also trains with Poole Swimming Club and won the Ladies 5km swim in 1:01.25s.

Payne in contention for Rio 2016 Olympic selection

British marathon swimmer and former Olympic medallist Keri-anne Payne has put herself into contention for Rio 2016 Olympic selection after finishing second in the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming Olympic Games Qualification Tournament in Portugal.

Payne (Warrender), a former 10km Olympic silver medallist in 2008, and team mate Danielle Huskisson (University of Stirling) had to finish within the top nine and as the highest placed Brit. Both athletes finished within the cut but Payne ahead of Huskisson in ninth.

Keri-anne Payne and Danielle Huskisson are set to race for Olympic selection on Saturday 11 June, as they compete in the FINA Marathon Swimming Olympic Games Qualification Tournament 10km race at Setubal in Portugal.
