Information for Guest Swimmers – Taster Sessions

The Club’s Tuesday (lifeguarded) and Sunday sessions are targeted at and suitable for swimmers aged 16 and over, all of whom will be expected to be able to swim continuously and comfortably for at least 20 minutes. With limited changing room facilities and coaching, we will be unable to accommodate younger age groups in these sessions for reasons of safeguarding and safety, but we will consider requests from local ASA Clubs to support their training for younger swimmers in separate sessions subject to mutually agreed risk assessments.

Taster sessions for 2017 are available on Tuesday 16 May, 23 May, 6 June, 13 June, 20 June, 27 June, 4 July, 11 July, 1 August, 15 August and 5 September (unless notified otherwise). If bad weather prevents this, it will be on the next avaiilable taster date in the month. The tasters start at the same time as the club sessions.
It is advisable to check with the Membership Secretary, Mark Vides, prior to the swim (

Prospective Club Members are permitted to have three swims (Taster Swims) before deciding to join the Club. The idea of these taster swims is for prospective Club members to see that the Club meets their expectations and for the Club to ensure that prospective members meet the minimum safety requirements of the Club.

The cost of these sessions is £3.00 per swim.

Due to the location and size of Poole Harbour swimming to the West of the West End Pavilion at Sandbanks is particularly hazardous and should be avoided. The tidal flow in and out of the harbour is extremely strong and affects the tidal flow along the nearby coast. Click  here for a diagram of the tidal flow near Poole Harbour.
